This visualization features a three dimensional multiwavelength representation of the Crab Nebula This visualization has a three-dimensional multi-wavelength representation of the Crab Nebula, a pulsar wind nebula, the remains of an exploded star. The film is based on NASA's three Great Observatories: the Chandra X-ray Observatory and Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes.

The film begins by showing the Crab Nebula in context and locating the observed supernova in the constellation Taurus. This view zooms in to present Hubble, Spitzer, and Chandra images of the Crab Nebula, each highlighting one of the nested structures in the system.

The video then begins to slowly accumulate the three-dimensional X-ray structure, shows the pulsar and disk of the energetic material, and adds particle jets that shoot from opposite sides of the energetic dynamo.

Next, is the rotating infrared view of a glowing emission cloud called synchrotron radiation surrounding the pulsar system. This distinctive form of radiation occurs when the currents of charged particles are wrapped around the magnetic field lines of the pulsar.

Then the visible lighted outer shell of the Crab Nebula appears. This glowing gas shell, which looks like a cage around the entire system, consists of filaments in the form of an ionized oxygen touch. The tsunami of particles released by the pulsar pushes this expanding cloud of debris like an animal clogging its cage.

X-ray, infrared and visible light models are combined at the end of the film to reveal both the rotating three-dimensional multi-wavelength view and the corresponding two-dimensional multi-wavelength image of the Crab Nebula.
