Panchkula: Grief counsellor helps crime victims share traumatic stories

Panchkula: Grief counsellor helps crime victims share traumatic stories Panchkula has hired a ‘grief counsellor’ for women survivors of various crimes including rape, domestic abuse and trauma. Besides helping the women victims to cope with the after-effects of crime committed against them, the grief counsellor will also offer psychological support to the aggrieved police personnel of Panchkula. While speaking to ANI, the DSP of Panchkula Police Noopur Bishnoi said, ‘We came up with this concept of grief counselling in December 2017. We had appointed Renu Mathur as a grief counsellor and tried solving various cases through this initiative.’ ‘Especially, in cases when the crime is related to any minor this initiative is very helpful as they are not able to express themselves properly,’ she added. ‘It has been a successful venture till now,’ DSP Noopur Bishnoi further stated. On the other side speaking to ANI, the Grief counsellor of Panchkula, Dr Renu Mathur said, ‘I am thankful to Panchkula Police for taking this initiative as it was highly required in our country. Cases related to rape, POCSO and domestic violence in which victims that face mental and physical trauma this initiative is very helpful for them.’ ‘The process of their counselling is very rare in India and as such there was no trauma centre in any police station by now,’ she added. ‘The women police stations of Haryana Police took this initiative which will help the victims directly and they can share their problems with us,’ Dr Renu Mathur further stated.
