We regularly validate if accounts on YouTube are real and legitimate, which is part of an ongoing process to make sure that our site metrics are free of spam, abuse, and closed accounts to keep YouTube a fair place for everyone.
Heads up Creators: You may see a decrease in your subscriber count on Dec 3. Sometimes, due to technical or process reasons, we may need to remove more than the usual amount of closed accounts on one day.
Q: Remind me, what is a closed account? Closed accounts were either closed by the user, or by YouTube/Google for violating account policies.
Q: How do I know if closed accounts were removed from my channel’s subscribers? If we removed closed accounts from your channel’s subscriber count, you’ll see this reflected in YouTube Analytics for Dec 3 to Dec 4 within the next 48 hours. From YouTube Studio - YouTube Analytics - select “See more” under the graph - Subscription source - Closed accounts.
Q: How will this affect watch time on my channel? Since these accounts are closed, removing them from your subscriber count shouldn’t have an impact on watch time.
