Russia and Turkey began conducting joint patrol of the border area near al-Darbasiyah on Friday. The deployment was agreed during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi on October 22.
Erdogan said on Wednesday that the joint mission will start covering a 7km area (5 miles) south of the Turkish border.
But he warned that Turkey would resume its military operation in northeastern Syria if Kurdish forces do not fully withdraw from the so-called 30-kilometre (20 mile) ‘safe zone.’
