Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk calls for improvement as Sadio Mane gives verdict on VAR

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk calls for improvement as Sadio Mane gives verdict on VAR Liverpool moved 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League heading into 2020, but there was a number of key VAR incidents that caused controversy. The only goal of the game - which stood - came when Adam Lallana found Sadio Mane in the box before the latter duly slotted home past Rui Patricio. Referee Anthony Taylor though originally ruled the goal out for what he adjudged was a handball from Lallana in the build-up. Replays though showed the ball had in fact bounced off Lallana’s chest with VAR eventually confirming the goal. Wolves then had a goal disallowed by VAR moments before half-time for a marginal offside call which had Nuno Espirito Santo livid on the touchlines. And there was also some suggestion at half-time that Mane’s goal shouldn’t have stood either with claims Van Dijk had handled the ball in the build-up. JUST IN:  Liverpool player ratings vs Wolves: Gomez bails out Van Dijk    “I need to see it back. I can't remember it. I heard from you guys about handball,” Van Dijk said when asked about the incident. “I thought it was complaints about the handball for Adam Lallana. The game is over. What can we do? The goal stood." Liverpool now hold a commanding lead at the top of the table, but Van Dijk insists his team-mates are constantly looking at ways to improve. “Wolves are a fantastic side who play good football and you have to give them credit because it was going to be difficult. Today was going to be the same,” he added. READ MORE Graeme Souness suggests offside rule change after VAR controversy Man Utd fans fuming as Liverpool benefit from VAR decision Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp green lights Rhian Brewster deal  Trending READ MORE Liverpool handed title advice by Man Utd legend Paul Scholes  “We want to keep continuing what we are doing and we will see where we are at the end of the road where were can be. “We feel we can improve but cannot complain about where are. 2019 was promising and hopefully we can keep it going and enjoy the ride." Mane is now Liverpool’s leading goalscorer in the Premier League after overtaking Mohamed Salah with his 10th strike of the campaign.
