IGI bag scare: Why Delhi airport is ill-equipped to deal with attacks

IGI bag scare: Why Delhi airport is ill-equipped to deal with attacks There is not a single baggage check between the first entry point to Indira Gandhi International Airport after the last traffic signal and the baggage scanner. This means that a person can easily gain entry to the airport with an explosive-laden bag. The baggage is not even checked at the gates at the departure section where CISF personnel check the tickets and verify the passengers’ identities before allowing them in. There is a traffic signal around 200 metres from the departure and arrival areas at IGIA’s Terminal 3. Soon after, the travellers go past the first checkpoint. A visit to the airport on Friday for a reality check showed four staffers at the checkpoint, but none beyond that. The road then diverges into one that climbs towards the departure area and another that goes to the arrival area.
