Boris Johnson refuses to kiss Angela Merkel after Emmanuel Macron at EU summit

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson refused to grant German Chancellor Angela Merkel a customary European greeting when he met her at a crunch EU summit despite his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron doing so seconds before.

Boris Johnson is in Brussels for a crucial EU summit between European Union leaders in which Brexit took centre stage.

Just hours before the leaders came together it was announced a Brexit deal had been reached between the UK Government and the European Union. However, the DUP and Labour have insisted they will vote down the deal as the British Parliament sits for the first time on a Saturday since the Falklands War this weekend.

As Boris Johnson met German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron at the EU summit there was an awkward exchange.

Mr Macron greeted Ms Merkel with a traditional European kiss on her cheek.

But Mr Johnson did not follow suit.
