Modi: India will put an end to single-use plastic (9 Sep 2019) India's Prime Minster Narendra Modi opened the 14th session of the Conference of Parties (COP) to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Greater Noida today.

Modi said India will "put an end" to single-use plastics in the coming years and urged the world to "say goodbye" to single-use plastic.

At the conference Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General United Nations, said that there was an urgent need to move to action from planning and negotiation.

India has taken over the presidency of COP from China for the next two years.
