OK so it was recently brought to my attention that someone had been copying a character of mine,, the character being Fabien [my sona!] And it made me think about what is and what isnt okay when it comes to being inspired by someone to make an OC.
In this case, the character was "Glitch". the design was VERY similar to Fabiens, though the actual personality and such was much different. I would show a comparison but Lost took down the videos showing Glitch ;w; They gave me permission to redesign their OC tho so thats this speedpaint !!
I wont be doing anything like this in the future i just wanted to make an example of how "heavily inspired" characters can be done right.
Advice to younger artists that are keen to make an OC similar to someone elses :
-DO add your own spin on the character, change up alot of the aspects and well,, make them your own !! New name, different story ect
-DO NOT blatantly rip off the character without giving credit
There comes a point were its hard to tell two characters apart, id say its okay to be inspired but MAKE THE CHARACTER YOURS !!
Dont be afraid to be creative !! GO BERSERK !!
