Unlock the fretboard with 1 Scale (Beginners lesson to stepping outside the box) You can unlock the fretboard with just 2 scale shapes. When you play the A Minor scale over 6 strings you are automatically playing it in 2 shapes. When you play A on the low E as far as A on the D, That is 1 shape. Then, when you play the scale from A on the D string to A on your high e string that is the 2nd shape... Use the 1st finger to lead you from the low E to the D string. Then use the 4th finger to lead you from the D string to the high e string.
You can use this idea to guide you around the entire fretboard. E.g you can start and lead with both your 1st or 4th finger when playing from any A note on the fretboard...
