Tito Ortiz Saying He'd Beat Jon Jones Isn't News | Luke Thomas

Tito Ortiz is trying to drum up interest for his Combate Americas bout with Alberto Del Rio. In the process, he's telling media outlets he'd beat UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. He won't and it's not actual news, yet media outlets are repeating it as if it's some kind of service to the viewer, reader or listener.

I don't blame Ortiz so much as I do the media outlet. The perverse incentives of the broken media model create situations like this. Still, a little editorial discretion is warranted.
