This movie visualises the dynamics of an inflexible bead-spring (inextensible) chain in a 2D turbulent flow. An ensemble of non-interacting chains (black lines) are overlaid on a pseudo-color plot of the vorticity field. The bending stiffness of the chain prevents it from being entrapped within vortices and, thus, reduces the extent of preferential sampling of vortical regions in comparison with a flexible chain.
