How To Write A Really Good Resume: 3 Steps to a Perfect Resume

How To Write A Really Good Resume: 3 Steps to a Perfect Resume First tip I'll share is that it's important to target your resume. Too often folks have this kind of kitchen sink approach, that they have everything on their resume, every job, and it may not even be relevant to the position that they're applying to. The first thing is to really make sure you're targeting and focusing your experience on the job in the industry that you're applying for.

The next thing would be, make sure that you're eliminating things that aren't valuable. People still have objective statements. People have references upon request and a lot of these outdated and antiquated sections. This is the time where you can better leverage a summary section of the skill section, so make better use of the real estate on your resume.

One of the other things that also mentioned is incorporating keywords. When you look at the job description, there are plenty of keywords that they're looking for. Making sure that you're incorporating them. Don't just put them in, for putting them in sake, make sure that they flow and they actually can describe your experience.

In terms of the cover letter, if they're not asking for it, if it's not even optional, if they're just asking for your resume, just give them the resume. But if a cover letter is optional, it doesn't hurt to submit it. The key tip for cover letters is, to make sure they're focusing on the job in the company, trying not to do the cut the cookie-cutter, everybody gets the same thing, it is unsuccessful. When companies read your cover letter, they want to know why you picked them. It's important to highlight not just why you want the job, why you want to work for them specifically.
