Join VA Claims Insider Elite, get instant access to the ELITE Experience Portal (EEP) and $13,119 worth of proprietary VA claim resources TODAY, and obtain a VA DBQ and VA Nexus Letters: You got your mental health rating. You are happy that it is a fairly high percentage like 50% VA Mental Health Rating, a 70% VA Mental Health Rating or even 100% VA Mental Health Rating. Now, you think...wow, I can stop going to therapy or counseling.
Fine...that is your choice.
But, did you know that if you do, when you come up for review at 6 months, 18 months or 36 months the VBA will look at that and say 'Hey, this guy has stopped counseling for his mental health condition.
That means it is no longer bothering him as much. It is no longer chronic! Great! We can now reduce his percentage! Let's send a proposed reduction!' [High 5's all around]
It is up to you to decide how you deal with your mental health condition. You can choose to continue counseling, treatment or therapy or not. You may also find a better way for yourself such as meeting with clergy, meditation, exercise, walking...whatever.
If you do choose an non-clinical way of dealing with your rated condition you need to make sure your current doctors know about it and that it is annotated in your medical records so the VBA can see them.
If you do have clinical treatment at a non-VA provider including a Vet Center, make sure those records are available to the VBA by either signing a release form, delivering them by hand to the Release of Information (ROI) office at your VA Medical Center or by insuring you are opted in to health care record sharing at the ROI office.
