(17 Dec 2019) FOR MANY 'RISE OF SKYWALKER' FILMMAKERS, SAYING GOODBYE TO 'STAR WARS' WAS BITTERSWEET J.J. Abrams had mixed feelings at the world premiere of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" - the ninth and final entry in the so-called "Skywalker" series of "Star Wars."
Speaking Monday night (16 DECEMBER 2019) in Los Angeles, the writer/producer/director said he was relieved to be "finally showing the film."
"You know it's bittersweet because I love this cast and crew so much," he added.
It was a sentiment shared by many of the other crew attending the premiere.
Screenwriter Chris Terrio said he and his fellow crew "it was a goodbye every day," during the production.
"Every day that we shot, we thought, well, that's one less day we'll get to spend in the 'Star Wars' galaxy. And so, it was bittersweet for sure to come to the end where we couldn't be more excited for audiences to see it."
Sound designer David Acord said just being a part of the movie has been "incredibly special."
"To lump in, you know, my humble little corner of this movie and with what John Williams is bringing to the movie is huge. And that's no small thing," said Acord.
Also attending the event was "Stranger Things" star Gaten Matarazzo, who has been a "Star Wars" fans since the age of six.
He was anticipating an emotional night.
"Tears will be shed. I can't imagine. I'm pretty sure I'll start crying the minute the titles screen starts going," he said.
