An adolescent is completely different phenomenon. An adolescent begins a quest for independence and a preparation for adulthood. An adolescent wants more privacy. It is ashamed of bonding too closely with a parent as this shows a sign of immaturity and weakness. An adolescent forms its own opinions, wants its own room, its own posters, dress, hairdo, expression and money to finance its pleasures. An adolescent wants to experiment success in romance and sex with great force as these are forces of adulthood. An adolescent wants to chose its own career and no longer enjoys blind obedience to parents.
A good parent understands the difference between a child and an adolescent. A bad parent believes an adolescent is still a child and will not gradually cut the umbilical cord to let the adult bloom. It is a strong violence against the soul of a child to force that child to live the parents dreams instead of its own dreams. Good parents help their children fulfil the children's dreams and not their own plans for the child. No soul can be truly happy serving other people's dreams but its own.
