Facebook can almost be termed the home of information, and whoever says that wouldn't be wrong. A mother, Andrea Pergola wrote on Facebook, "I don't think I've ever posted a BE AWARE post before. But after today, I think this is super important." Typically when people see posts like this, they just think of it as some heavily exaggerated story written with the sole purpose of getting as many people as possible to click and share the post. More often than not the content within the post doesn't live up to the expectations people have after being drawn in due to reading the first few lines. However, the situation just described above doesn't fit those criteria. There was absolutely nothing exaggerated about this particular instance.

What led to this?

It all started when 15-year old Logan went about collecting tree branches as part of his volunteer work. Everything seemed to be going on fine until the teenager felt something sting his wrist. He brushed it off as a simple bite from an insect and continued his search. It's a pretty common occurrence for things like this to happen while out in the wilderness, it's just something that comes with working outside.

However, minutes later a strange red grid-like mark appeared on his skin, and it was burning very bad. Insect bites in the form of a red bump are nothing new. But red grid-like marks that start severely burning causing the recipient immense amounts of pain is an entirely different story. This is definitely not something most people experience while being outdoors.

The rash immediately spread up to his arm, and then the rest of his chest. The burning sensation became unbearable, and the teen began feeling faint. He felt dizzy and his face went pale. Also, he was in severe pain. His mother who had appeared at the scene began washing the affected area with water. Then she applied garlic on it. But the young boy was still in pain. It even looked like the garlic and water had done nothing to help the situation. Most of the time simply washing the area and applying something that's known to help ease the area impacted is enough. It's a rather worrying situation when common methods like the ones just mentioned don't seem to be doing anything to help.

Logan's grandfather was near and he decided to locate the bug. It was a cute and fuzzy caterpillar. He put on a glove and placed the caterpillar in a baggie. Logan's mother then went on the internet to research what kind of caterpillar had been in contact with her son.

The result almost caused her to pass out.

It turned out that her son had been bitten by one of the deadliest caterpillars in North America. She knew that he had to be rushed to the Emergency room. When most people think of caterpillars, they think of small relatively harmless creatures that some children even enjoy interacting with. But this particular caterpillar is one of those that people should go out of their ways to avoid at all costs.

“Please research this caterpillar, be aware of it and make your kids aware of it,” Andrea wrote on Facebook. “It is not native to Florida, but to Texas, and just happens to live here now. Please if you are stung or your kid is stung get to the ER and let them treat you. I can assure you — we didn’t realize he had been stung so many times and normal over-the-counter Benadryl would not have treated this at home."

If you, your child or anyone near you is stung by strange insects, it is important that you get to the ER as fast as possible so they can treat you. A lot of insects exist out there in the wild and we do not have any idea how dangerous they can be. Different people have different reactions to being stung or bit by certain insects. Just because you reacted a certain way, doesn't mean that it's going to be the case for everyone. Some people even have allergies towards certain infect stings and bites. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Fortunately, Logan is doing very well now. You should share this video to raise awareness on the subject of insects. You don't want your friends, family or colleagues to be a victim of deadly insects.
