River Plate fans descend on Lima on Friday, November 22, to unveil an enormous ‘banderazo’ ahead of the Argentinian side appearing in the Copa Libertadores final.
River Plate will face Flamengo in a Brazil-Argentina final in the Peruvian capital on November 23. The 2018 champions beat Buenos Aires rivals and last year’s finalists Boca Juniors at the penultimate stage of South America’s flagship competition last month.
Under former Benfica boss Jorge Jesus, Rio de Janeiro-based Flamengo have reached their first Copa Libertadores final in 38 years.
The match is being held amidst organisational chaos after CONMEBOL were forced to abandon plans to host the game in Santiago following large-scale protests hitting Chile.
