You will need 26 squares that are 5 inches square (cotton or a similar lightweight fabric is best), about 3/4 of a yard each of batting and backing. Quilt as to your preference, or tie every 3 inches using yarn or embroidery floss. This should fit most domestic sewing machines. If you have an extra-long or over-sized machine, you can add a one inch strip of fabric to each of the smaller pieces, and on one side of the larger piece. Finished size of this piece will be 17 " wide by 10-1/2" tall by 4" deep. You can also use 6 inch squares instead of five inch squares, and the finished size will be approximately 19" wide by 13" tall by 5 " deep. Part 2 will be assembly.
