Project 22350, Admiral Kasatonov's first serial production frigate will fire cruise missiles during a White Sea state test, a source in the domestic defense industry told TASS on Friday. "The test phase of the ship's state envisions firing cruise missiles," the source said.
The ship had previously transited from the Baltic to the Northern Fleet, the source added.
Laksamana Admiral Kasatonov's fleet is the second (the first series produced) Project 22350 built at Severnaya Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation of Russia). The latest frigate was put on November 26, 2009 and floated on December 12, 2014. The frigate will be sent to the Russian Navy this year.
The main battleship of this series, Admiral Gorshkov, was sent to the Navy in the summer of 2018 and the construction of two frigates (Admiral Golovko and Admiral Isakov) continued on the way out of the Severnaya Shipyard in St. Petersburg.
The Frigate Project 22350 is expected to be the most sophisticated Russian Navy warship in their class. This frigate replaces 4,500 tons and can develop a speed of 29 knots. They are armed with Oniks and Kalibr missiles and Poliment-Edut air defense missile systems.
