Equipping a large commercial GA fleet for the ADS-B mandate is both costly and challenging, especially for operators that have specialized aircraft. One operator in Rhode Island—Simmons Aviation Services—has a large fleet of aircraft used for aerial advertising, plus vintage warbirds. Feeling the crunch of the upcoming mandate, it's trying the recently certified budget-based ($1999) uAvionix tailBeacon ADS-B product, but not without some challenges.

He also looked at the details of installing the new tailBeacon and what buyers should expect.
