Dozens of tigers have died from a deadly virus More than half the tigers saved from Tiger Temple have died from a virusMore than half of the tigers saved from an infamous Tiger Temple tourist attraction, closed down in 2016 after allegations of animal trafficking, have died.Thai authorities confiscated nearly 150 tigers from the Buddhist temple west of Bangkok in response to global pressure over wildlife trafficking.During the raid, they allegedly found dead cubs preserved in the freezer, and others stuffed into jars.Visitors to the temple took selfies with tigers and bottle-fed cubs, but the tourist destination became the centre of controversy when it emerged the owners were selling tiger parts on the black market. Years on, 86 of the 147 confiscated tigers have slowly died from Laryngeal tongue paralysis. The animals had become weak from the stress of living in captivity, and their condition had steadily deteriorated from their diagnosis to their death, The Thaiger reported.Because the tigers had been inbred and lived only in captivity, their immune system was weakened, leaving them unable to fight the viral disease.      The temple had promoted itself for years as a wildlife sanctuary, but it was eventually investigated for suspected links to wildlife trafficking and animal abuse.
