Cyberpunk 2077 Gender & Nudity. You don’t choose your gender anymore, rather you now choose a body type... Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG set in Night City, the most vibrant and dangerous metropolis of the future. You play as V (Cherami Leigh / Gavin Drea), a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. In a world of Solos, Netrunners and Techies, today is your first step to becoming an urban legend like Samurai, Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves) Solo, Morgan Blackhand, Corpo, Saburo Arasaka or Netrunner, Alt Cunningham.
Cyberpunk Red is the newest edition of Mike Pondsmith’s classic RPG of the Dark Future. It updates the rules and advances the lore of the universe past the 4th Corporate War which ended the original 2020 era. Cyberpunk Red takes place between the time of Cyberpunk 2020 and the time of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 video game from CD Projekt Red. All three games (Cyberpunk 2020, Cyberpunk Red, and Cyberpunk 2077) take place in the same universe, at different points along the same timeline.
Adam Badowski explained adding those white boxes to cover up nudity was a tactical decision, as they did not want to be accused of using nudity for shock value, or to have its time with the international press side-tracked by conversations about male or female nudity in video games. Badowski commented that “during the presentation, we don’t want people to focus on and think about these things. Nudity makes it more believable; that’s why we want to have it.
On the topic of customizing V’s gender, Marthe Jonkers, 2077 Senior Concept artist explained that you don’t choose your gender anymore, rather you now choose a body type. CDPR want you to feel free to create any character you want. You choose your body type and have two voices, one male sounding and one female sounding, provided by Gavin Drea and Cherami Leigh. You can mix and match. CDPR want to give people the freedom to make their own character and play the way they want to play.
The topic of sexuality was recently referenced via an in-game advertisement featuring a transgender model promoting the Chromanticure drink. It has the words 16 flavours you’d love to mix underneath the image. Kasia Redesiuk, art director for Cyberpunk 2077, disclosed that the intention behind the artwork was to reflect the dystopian state of a cyberpunk world, in the grip of omnipresent, all-powerful mega corporations.
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, 2077 Quest Director, explained that the one thing that hurts CDPR the most is when certain individuals imply that CDPR’s intentions are somehow deliberately nefarious and that individuals fail to consider such topics within the context of the game and the Cyberpunk genre. CDPR will not change their vision for their games. While feedback is useful it should never interfere with the vision and core values of the game.
