World Population Day has been celebrated since 1989 as recommended by Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program. The major goal of this day is to focus attention on global population issues, importance of reproductive health and spread awareness to the general public.
This year's World Population Day focuses primarily on the unfinished business of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development dedicated to reproductive health and gender equality and its importance for achieving sustainable development.
