Megan Mancuso, a Doctoral Student and IGERT fellow at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), uses simulation to provide new insights into bone adaptation in humans. Learn how Megan and the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory at WPI are using Abaqus to better understand mechanical forces human skeletons experience while exercising and how those external forces relate to the internal stresses and strains on our bones that triggers an adaptive response. This understanding may help to design or optimize exercises that could provide increased bone strength in women in a way that could offset osteoporotic bone loss and fractures later in life.
