GlenOak: A sense of belonging, a sense of inclusivity, a sense of relief

GlenOak exists to service a population that is yearning for a school that sees education differently; more meaningful, more engaging, and more intuitive and responsive than just books, notepaper, and worksheets. We aim to inspire hope and promise for families that have arrived on our doorstep largely disenfranchised and frustrated with traditional school systems. It’s not only what we do, but how we do it that translates into success for our students. Our approach isWe take a purposeful and mindful approach to engaging our students and this is seen in all aspects of GlenOak.

At GlenOak we practice a “relationships first” approach where we take the time to get to know our students, and their families. We facilitate courageous and respectful conversations with parents, developing detailed, personalized plans for superior education whether the student is below, at, or above their current grade level. We acknowledge that learning happens everywhere and that everyone is a learner. We make use of the world around us to inform understanding. We build experiences that engage students and foster inquiry for ALL students regardless of ability.

By valuing each student as a person, they feel respected and when students start to let their guard down rather than being on the defense, they move from disengaged to engaged. GlenOak has a PROFOUND impact on students. In as little as a month, our process has students exclaiming: “I want to go to GlenOak because they KNOW me”. This effect spills over into home life with parents reporting their child being happier, more involved in family activities, and more emotionally resilient in the face of personal challenge.

With GlenOak’s guidance and support, our students become confident, proud and positive, and often far exceeding the potential the traditional system deemed possible. We believe we’re all UNIQUE and extraordinary and we all have legitimate place in this world.
