When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Do you remember the first time you heard that? I do. It was in 1988 when those words were embedded into my brain. The kids name was Abraham. Abraham would always try to make me flinch and pretty much disrespected me every chance he had. I knew it was because his face was ugly and mine had the features of an Egyptian prince, but I could not help being born with tremendous gifts, such as having a golden voice and great features. At least this is what drove Abraham angry in my opinion.
One day I heard some words that made me realize that I wasn’t afraid of this bully anymore. I decided to do something that I knew would change the course of his life. I figured I would point my finger at him and laugh every time I saw him. He couldn’t understand what I was doing but I knew it would drive him over the edge. After he gave me a black eye and a bruised lip, I got up and continued to do it. Several kids began to point at him almost immediately and before you he knew it, the whole school began to point at him and laugh. I didn’t understand myself what I was doing and why, I just felt like it needed to be done. Abraham found himself pretty much fighting with several other boys for the rest of the school year and the finger pointing continued to follow him throughout high school.
Years later Abraham and I began speaking to each other on Instagram. He said that I changed the way he was to people because even though he beat me up, I had figured out a way to make him the product of his own bad doing!
There are 2 reasons why I told this story here.
One, this encounter reminded me of Abraham because the officers are trying to get the public to hate us.
Two, High Desert Community Watch called me out of his car to throw hands but then decided to back down and cower into a vindictive backstabber when I gladly obliged.
