Prime Minister Peter O’Neill today cut the ribbon to open the road in Bopire Village outside Namatanai town.
Hundreds around New Ireland gathered to witness the occasion, including senior members of cabinet, Australian High Commissioner Bruce Davies, and host Governor, Sir Julius Chan, among others.
The last stretch of road sealing was completed under the PNG Australia Transport Sector funding.
The Boluminski Highway is now the longest sealed road in the Pacific region.
Works Minister, Michael Nali, says the road will have a huge impact on the lives of those using and must be maintained over time.
